When they signed Soto, Gary Cohen proclained that the Mets are the team
to beat in the Division. Cohen has a habit of doing things like this.
I recall his remark about Daniel Murphy... which proved wrong. Murph
ended up as a great hitter for years and Cohen said he was overated.

I think Gary disliked Murphs opinions on the Gay lifestyle.

Regardless, it is so obviously not right. The Braves trio of Acuna,
Olsen and O'Reilly outperforms anything the Mets have to offer. And
then there is the 3 players for 40 HR is Olsen, Acuna, and Ozuna....

They probably have the best catcher in baseball and depth up and down
the pitching staff.

They just lost Max Fried, who is screwed by Covid more than any player
in basbeall. Between 2020 and 2023 he has an ERA+ of 162. This might
well be a great signing by the Yankees.

Still the Braves staff the best in baseball with a 120 ERA+

The Braves are the team to beat.

I have always believed that was the sole reason behind the Mets not
resigning him. Can't get away with that thinking in a city like NY; or
at least you can't speak about it.

No pitcher, no matter who he is, is worth an 8 year deal. That signing
by the Yankees was an over-reaction to the Soto signing.

Until someone knocks them off their throne, they will remain so.

Really? Did BoSox fans feel that way about Pedro? How about Shirling
and Johnson in Arizona? The Yankees and Clemens?

This site is great for learning who gets what from where and for how
long in MLB

(p.s. none of the aforementioned received 8 year contracts)

There is an interesting correlation between the size of the payroll and
division postion

It was huge. It was the Wilpons version of Wokeness.

How Niemo got around it is interesting

Did the Mes not do that last season? Am I forgetting something? They
were decimated by injuries and it is a mistake to think a healthy Braves
team is second place finishers.
