Blue Jays To Acquire Andres Gimenez

By Anthony Franco | December 10, 2024 at 6:23pm CDT

The Blue Jays and Guardians are in agreement on a four-player trade
sending second baseman Andrés Giménez to Toronto. The Jays get Giménez
and reliever Nick Sandlin for infielder Spencer Horwitz and outfield
prospect Nick Mitchell. No cash is changing hands, so the Jays are
absorbing the final five years of the Giménez contract. The teams have
yet to officially announce the deal.

It’s the first out of nowhere trade of the Winter Meetings. While it’s
never a complete shock to see Cleveland deal a high-priced player, there
hadn’t been much to suggest they were shopping their Gold Glove second
baseman. Giménez appeared to be a core piece since he signed one of the
biggest contracts in franchise history just two seasons back: a
seven-year, $106.5MM extension.

Gimenez has turned into an average player and regressed every year he
was in Cleveland. Good move by the Indians, I mean Guardians.

My gut feeling is the Mets see Acuna in the same light. He'll peek
early, level off and then decline. For the right offer, the Mets would
trade him. But it has to be the right offer

Not for nothing but that describes Willie Mays.

Lets be glad they are trading with Toronto and not the Mets. When we
trade with Cleveland the players peek early and then fall off the table
to be a huge drag on the payroll...
